Reflection is the mirror that allows us to
see inside of us. We invariably have one visit to an
external mirror to ensure that what our eyes see is how we
want to project ourselves to the world. Reflection allows us
to see hidden vices inside us that upset our mental,
physical, spiritual, and social balance. In our daily life,
we spend so much time in a body conscious world with our
senses that we forget to look at the blockages caused by
dirt piles of anger, arrogance, greed, worry,…. in our
recesses. We forget that anger eats away intellect;
arrogance eats away wisdom; greed eats away integrity, worry
eats away life;…If we do not reflect on our values,
thoughts, words, and actions on a daily basis, our vices
will cause turbulence in waters carrying our lifeboat. You
can only see your reflection if the water is still.
Similarly, ego makes us stand next to the mirror and we do
not see our ugly nakedness. You can only see your self if
you step back from the mirror.
Reflection is about bridging the chasm
between what we really are and what we want to be.
Reflection, as a neutral witness (i.e. seeing ourselves with
no thoughts on a daily basis), shows us the royal road to do
most good for the most people that includes yourself. True
happiness can only come when the little "i" of the
outer world is communicating with the big "I" –
the Inner Spirit, the Self that is within. Reflection is
about giving what you wish to receive. If you want respect
– give respect to others. If you want love – give love to
others. In essence, you have to give what you want in
return.
